A five-year-old boy has died following an accident on the main road between St Austell and Lostwithiel.
Police were called to Penpillick Hill on the A390 after a collision involving the youngster and a Ford Fiesta.
The accident occurred at around 4.50pm yesterday (Thursday, April 25).
A police spokesperson said: “A five-year-old boy sustained serious injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been informed. The driver of the car was uninjured.
“The road was closed in both directions while emergency services dealt with the scene. It was reopened at around 12.40am.

Sergeant Phil Brown, of the police serious collisions investigation team, said: “Our thoughts are with the family following this tragic incident. They are being supported by specialist officers.

“Officers are investigating the circumstances that led to the collision and we would particularly like to speak to any witnesses who we have not yet spoken to.”
