A COW has been rescued from a slurry pit on a Cornish farm in the earlier hours of the morning.
Fire and rescue crews were called to the incident at St Newlyn East at just after 1.30am on Sunday.
A crew from Newquay went to the scene as did an animal rescue unit from Tolvaddon and a specially-trained officer.
The firefighters used rescue lines, poles and the rescue unit’s crane to get the cow out of the slurry pit.
In a separate incident, firefighters were called to Fore Street in Redruth at around 9.30pm on Saturday. Crews from Tolvaddon and Perranporth, some wearing breathing apparatus, tackled a fire in the open. The blaze was reported to have been put out by 1.30am on Sunday.
Earlier on Saturday, crews tackled a house fire in Lower Lane, Mawgan, near Falmouth. Appliances from Mullion, Helston, Falmouth and St Ives, along with a water carrier from Helston, responded to the incident at around 5.30pm.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hosereel jets to extinguish the blaze.
Meanwhile, on Saturday afternoon, crews from Wadebridge attended an incident in their town in which a shed, greenhouse, hedge and fence were found to be well alight. Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire.
In a further incident, at just before 11am on Friday, crews from Padstow, Wadebridge and Liskeard attended a vehicle fire which had spread to nearby hay bales. Hosereels and fire beaters were used by the firefighters to extinguish the blaze in the Padstow area.
