EMERGENCY services have confirmed they were scrambled following concerns for the welfare of a man in Newquay.

Police were called initially called to the Mount Wise area on November 28 at 5.35am.

It was further reported that the man had entered the River Gannel and then the nearby boating lake.

The man in his thirties was brought out of the water a short time later and treated by ambulance. He was taken to Treliske Hospital and left in the care of health professionals.

A spokesperson for Newquay Coastguard said: “The team was tasked to assist Devon and Cornwall Police and South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust with a casualty in the Gannel area. The team were stood down shortly after tasking.”
