ONE of the oldest dog-lovers in the country has celebrated her 104th birthday in St Austell.
Beryl Lobb enjoyed her special day at the Caprera care home where she has been a resident since 2013.
Beryl, when asked about the secret of a long life, said it was knowing what you want to do and doing it correctly.
Balloons and decorations were put up to celebrate Beryl’s birthday and she had a decorated cake with the wording, Happy 104th Birthday Beryl.
Children visited from Sandy Hill Academy to sing Happy Birthday and give Beryl drawings they had created to mark the occasion.
When the children ended their song, Beryl said: “Very nice. I like children singing.”
Beryl was born in 1920 and lived at St Blazey. She would cycle from St Blazey to Crinnis to carry out her job as a house-sitter.
A great dog-lover, Beryl showed her cocker spaniel at Crufts and won several categories at the dog show over the years.
Sarah Jewell, activities co-ordinator at Caprera, said: ‘Beryl had an amazing day and really enjoyed the children visiting from Sandy Hill Academy, who sang Happy Birthday to her. Thank you to everyone who joined in our celebrations.”
