The Trewoon Yarn Bombers worked hard to create a beautiful display of more than 600 woollen poppies as a colourful tribute for Armistice Day in Trewoon.
Volunteers came together at Trewoon Village Hall in October to crochet poppies and leaves. These were placed by the railway bridge over the A3058.
Yarn bomber Bev Lory said: “I had a design in mind for the Remembrance display, but this changed dramatically due to the sheer number of people who turned up to help in response to our social media appeal.”
The work was created in four sections.
“We started from the outside and worked inwards. Any poppies that were spare were donated to Trewoon Chapel for its display,” she added.
Crocheted and conventional poppies can be purchased at Trewoon Post Office with all funds going to the Royal British Legion.
The display will remain in place until after Remembrance Day, and will be removed as and when volunteers are able to help. The poppies will be washed and kept for reuse next year.
Another two Remembrance displays have been placed by the group, one outside Trewoon Post office and the other on a post box in Gorran Haven.
The Armistice display came hot on the heels of a Halloween series which appeared at six locations.
Trewoon Yarn Bombers meet once a month to work on yarn-related crafts from crochet and French knitting to pom-poms.
There are currently 20 active members, led by Jennifer Nancarrow-Allen. New members are always welcome; the next meeting is on Thursday, November 30 from 6pm at Trewoon Village Hall.
