ASSAULT
KYLE BARBERY, 21, of Seascape Lodge, Tolcarne Road, Newquay pleaded guilty to assaulting a man and a woman at Asda in Hayle last July. He was made subject to a community order and will have to abstain from consuming alcohol until 3 May.
STEVEN LEWIS, 36, of Crown Mine, St Dennis has been sent to Truro Crown Court for trial charged with assaulting three police officers in Truro in September 2023. His case is listed for 14 March.
ADAM MARTIN, 26, of Penrice Parc, St Austell pleaded guilty to assaulting a man and damaging his car as well as possessing a metal bar in Eliot Road, St Austell in September 2021. He will be sentenced on 13 March.
ETHAN EDWARDS, 20, of Trevithick Road, St Austell appeared at Truro Crown Court and changed not guilty pleas to guilty on charges of causing a woman grievous bodily harm with intent at the White Hart Hotel in St Austell on 1 November, assaulting a man by beating and damaging a police car. He was remanded in custody and his case adjourned until 28 March.
STEVEN SMITH, 42, of Milton Brow, Weston-super-Mare pleaded guilty at Truro Crown Court to eleven charges including assaulting a woman at Poundland in St Austell and stealing clothing from the shop, assaulting a man and stealing Lego from Sports Direct in St Austell, assaulting a police officer, aggravated vehicle taking and failing to stop after an accident in Mevagissey on 6 December. He was remanded in custody until 14 March.
FARRAN KENT, 32, of Gilliflower Place, Liskeard pleaded guilty to assaulting a man at Tregear Gardens, Truro last June occasioning him actual bodily harm. He was given a 24-week prison sentence, suspended for two years, was ordered to have mental health treatment, must do 150 hours unpaid work and pay his victim £1000 compensation as well as a £154 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
MARK MORRIS, 45, of NFA, admitted breaching a domestic violence protection order on 9 February by going to an address in Saltash and having contact with a woman he was prohibited from seeing. He was sent to prison for eight weeks because of his ‘flagrant disregard for court orders’.
STALKING
SIMON THOMPSON, 60, of Ranelagh Road, St Austell pleaded guilty to stalking a woman in St Austell last November and December by frequenting locations where he knew she would be including her home and sending her unwanted messages. He was made subject to a community order and put on a 12-week curfew to remain at his home daily from 7pm to 7am and he must have six months treatment for his alcohol abuse. He was also made subject to a restraining order not to contact his victim and must pay £114 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
RACIAL HARASSMENT
JAMES NUGENT, 53, of Mount Wise, Newquay has been sent to prison after he pleaded guilty to harassing a police officer in a racially aggravated way at Newquay on 9 August. He was given a 16-week sentence because of his ‘most demeaning language in a sustained incident and the most outrageous abuse of a black police officer which was also homophobic and misogynistic’. He has to pay the officer £500 compensation and £135 costs.
SEX OFFENCES
BENJAMIN FROST, 37, of Tregeagle Road, Roche has been sent to Truro Crown Court for sentence after he was convicted of breaching a sexual harm prevention order by failing to make a device capable of storing digital images available to the police, installing encryption on his mobile device to prevent access to the Session application and, between July 2023 and 12 February, making 12 category A images of a child – the most serious category. He was remanded in custody until his court appearance on 18 March.
SCOTT MELLNICK, 36, of Fore Street, St Dennis has been sent to Truro Crown Court charged with ten sexual offences including raping a teenage girl. His case will be heard on 14 March.
MARK MCILWAINE, 48, of Elizabeth Court, St Austell has been sent to Truro Crown Court charged with sexually assaulting a woman in Bodmin in 2022. His case is listed for 14 March.
MALCOLM DIXON, 55, of Portland Close, Liskeard has been sent to Truro Crown Court charged with eight sex offences including raping two girls aged under 16 in Torpoint and gross indecency with a third girl aged under 16. His case is listed for 14 March.
FRAUD
DANIEL GREENAWAY, 29, of Tremaine House, Bodmin pleaded guilty at Truro Crown Court to, between April 2019 and February 2022, committing fraud by obtaining bank accounts, catalogue accounts and bank loans in the name of a woman intending to make gain and expose her to loss and to forging her bank statements. He was given a 14-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and has to pay £140 victim surcharge.
THEFT
MICHELLE PARKYN, 44, of NFA, St Austell has been sent to Truro Crown Court for sentence after she pleaded guilty to six shoplifting offences from shops in St Austell and Newquay. She was remanded in custody.
ANDREW PAULL, 47, of NFA, Par has been sent to prison for 24 weeks after he pleaded guilty to stealing from the Spar and Co-op in Par, the Co-op in St Blazey and the Co-op in St Austell. He also pleaded guilty to fraud when he used another person’s bank card.
DRUGS OFFENCES
HARRY GREER, 24, of NFA, St Austell pleaded guilty to possessing .41g of cocaine at Newquay Custody Centre on 13 January. He was fined £80.
DANGEROUS DOG
ROSEMARY PENN of Penwind Farm, Muddy Lane, Mount, Bodmin has had an offence of owning a dangerous dog which was not kept under proper control withdrawn by police. The court heard that Ms Penn has now made steps to abide by the Voluntary Control Order. Police have reserved the right to reinstate the proceedings should any further reports come to light.
BREACH OF ORDER
MICHAEL RICHARDS, 47, of Treningle View, Bodmin pleaded guilty to breaching a criminal behaviour order at Bodmin on 11 February by acting in a manner which caused another to fear for their safety. He was given a community order and put on an eight-week curfew to remain at his home daily from 7pm to 10 am and he must have treatment for his alcohol use.
DROVE WITHOUT CARE
FINAN ARCHBOLD, 24, of Top Road, Griffydam pleaded guilty to causing serious injury to five people including three from the same family when he drove his Mazda without due care and attention on the B3263 Treven, Tintagel on 27 August 2023. He was committed to Truro Crown Court for sentence on 14 March.
DRUG/DRINK DRIVE
JUSTIN CLEMOW, 48, of Chapel Close, Crantock pleaded guilty to driving at Chiverton Cross last September with 313 micrograms of BZE per litre of blood exceeding the limit of 50 and 187 micrograms of MDMA per litre of blood exceeding the limit of 10. He was made subject to a community order and must attend drug rehabilitation, he was banned from driving for 28 months, fined £80 and ordered to pay a £114 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
PAULINA TOKARSKA, 45, of Berry Road, Newquay pleaded guilty to driving in the car park of the Queen’s Hotel in Penzance last October with 127 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath exceeding the limit of 35. She was given an interim driving ban and will be sentenced on 14 March.
STEVEN WOOLLEY, 53, of Timber Close, St Austell changed a not guilty plea to guilty on a charge of driving a Range Rover in West Hill car park, St Austell on 31 March with 53 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath exceeding the limit of 35. He was banned from driving for 14 months which will be reduced by 14 weeks if he completes a course, fined £162 and ordered to pay a £65 victim surcharge and £135 costs.
JASON PRYNNE, 50, of Gwindra Road, St Stephen pleaded guilty to driving whilst disqualified and without insurance and with 73 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath exceeding the limit of 35 on Domellick Hill, St Austell on 24 January. He was banned from driving for 22 months, which will be reduced by 22 weeks if he completes a course, fined £800 and ordered to pay a £320 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
MICHAEL GLANFIELD, 54, of Treffry Way, Par pleaded guilty to driving whilst disqualified on the A30 at Okehampton last August and to driving with 635 micrograms of BZE per litre of blood exceeding the limit of 50 and driving without insurance. He was given an interim driving ban and will be sentenced on 28 March.
FAILED TO PROVIDE INFORMATION
MATTHEW CAMP, 56, of Quarry Street, St Germans changed a not guilty plea to guilty on a charge of failing to tell police who was driving a Transit van who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence. He was fined £461 and ordered to pay a £184 victim surcharge and £90 costs. He was banned from driving for six months due to repeat offending.
NO LICENCE
GARY WILCOX, 26, of Bosworgey Close, St Columb Major pleaded guilty to having no driving licence or insurance for a Triumph he was using on Mount Wise, Newquay in July 2023. He was fined £346 and ordered to pay a £138 victim surcharge and £90 costs and banned from driving for a month.
SPEEDING
PAUL STRADLING, 57, of Mayfield Road, Newquay was given a seven-day driving ban after he pleaded guilty to speeding on the A30 at Bodmin last July. He was fined £530 and ordered to pay a £212 victim surcharge and £90 costs.
