OUTLINE details of events in St Austell being organised by the town council this year have been published.

The council has highlighted seven events across the year, with more to be announced later. The exact times, dates and locations of some of the events have still to be confirmed.

The first is an Easter Fun Day in Poltair Park on Saturday, April 19. The free event will run from 10am to 3pm and will feature a scavenger hunt, Easter egg prizes and a bouncy castle.

Next month will see two events being organised in association with St Austell Library and SALSA (St Austell Library Support Association). The first is the VE Day Reflection on Thursday, May 8, and the second is a climate awareness event which is scheduled for around the middle of the month.

Another event will be held at the library on Saturday, June 29. This will be a community plant swap.

After-school park games will be held at various parks in the town in the week beginning July 7. Then, in late July, a community picnic in the park will be held in Bethel Park.

The final event so far announced will be the annual Remembrance Sunday church service and parade which will be held in the town centre on November 9.

Town councillors were told after the Remembrance Sunday event last November that it had become so popular Holy Trinity Church had insufficient capacity to accommodate everyone and that thought was being given to how the overspill could be incorporated.

St Austell mayor Cllr Julian Young said the Remembrance Sunday event was growing year on year and showed off the town in an incredibly positive light.

Meanwhile, the town library is asking people in St Austell for their Second World War memories in time for the VE Day Reflection.
