A group of talented students from Camborne Science & International Academy (CSIA) recently returned from a memorable week at the International Students Science Fair (ISSF) held at Mahidol Wittayanusorn School in Bangkok, Thailand.
The event brought together young scientists from across the globe to showcase their research and collaborate on innovative projects. Representing the school were Lily B, Jem C and Milly T.
The team’s research, titled "E-Liquid in the UK’s Waterways – A Recipe for Disaster for Daphnia?", explored the environmental impact of e-liquids on aquatic life in the UK’s waterways.
Their groundbreaking research was presented both through a poster display and an oral presentation to an esteemed panel of judges and their fellow participants.

The CSIA team’s outstanding performance was recognised with the Spark of Inspiration Award, which celebrates the innovative nature of their research and its potential to influence environmental policies and practices on a global scale.
The week was filled with unforgettable experiences for the students, who had the unique opportunity to meet Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand at the opening ceremony of the fair.
Alongside science workshops and excursions with students from around the world, the group visited traditional Thai temples, markets, and enjoyed vibrant cultural performances.
The trip also included a visit to the Hong Islands National Park in southern Thailand, where students had the chance to travel on long-tail boats and immerse themselves in the local culture.

This remarkable experience not only enhanced the students' scientific knowledge but also gave them a deeper understanding of global collaboration and cultural exchange. The ISSF event demonstrated how science can bring young minds together to solve pressing global challenges and create meaningful change in the world.
Emma Haase, principal of Camborne Science and International Academy, said: “We are incredibly proud of Lily, Jem, and Milly for their hard work, dedication, and passion for science. Their success at the International Students Science Fair is a testament to their commitment and the exceptional quality of their research.
“This experience has not only given them the chance to engage with cutting-edge science but has also opened their eyes to different cultures and international collaboration. They truly embody the spirit of innovation and global citizenship that we aim to create at CSIA."
