THE recent Open House at Redruth’s Oddfellows Hall on Green Lane has been hailed as the best one yet, as members of the Friendly Society and guests crowding in for a morning of refreshments, laughter and good company.

A hardworking team of Oddfellows volunteers kept the tea and coffee flowing, while a tempting array of home-baked treats stole the show. From the ever-popular Cornish hevva cake to charming Easter chick cupcakes, rich fruit cake, chocolate biscuits, and fresh fruit, there was something for every sweet tooth and all free of charge.

Guests also tested their knowledge with a fun tabletop quiz, with winners diving into a lucky dip of carefully wrapped prizes—adding extra excitement to an already joyful morning.

There was even an international twist, as friends visiting from the Netherlands joined in, adding to the event’s warm and welcoming vibe. The lively morning is just one of many events organised by the Oddfellows, a group dedicated to bringing people together and building friendships.

With around five events hosted monthly across the Plymouth and Truro District—including Redruth, Truro and Plymouth—there’s always something happening nearby.

District secretary Pete English shared: “We’re always happy to send out information so you can pick out what interests you. We’ve got a wonderful, welcoming group of people—some come on their own, others with friends or partners—and there’s always a host on hand to greet you.

“Everything’s organised, so all you need to do is turn up and enjoy yourself. I’d also like to give a huge thank you to everyone who helped make today’s event such a success—from the cake bakers and tea pourers to the tidy-up crew and our special guests from the Netherlands as well as to who all came along.”
