EMERGENCY services were called out in Newquay after a firework was mistaken for a flare.
Newquay Coastguard Search and Rescue Team were scrambled to the Little Fistral on Thursday, July 11 shortly after 10pm.
The team was stood down shortly afterwards following a search of the area when it became apparent it had been a firework that was let off.
A spokesperson for Newquay Coastguard said: “We were tasked to reports of a possible flare in the Little Fistral area. Upon arrival it became apparent that this had been a firework and after a rapid search of the area the team were stood down.
“This was a well intentioned false alarm and the public did the right thing in calling the coastguard. If you see anything suspicious or someone in difficulty along the coast, dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.”
