MONEY donated by members of a St Austell church congregation in place of sending individual Christmas cards has been given to a housing charity.
The donation of £126 from Mount Charles Methodist Church is a continuation of the support it has given to Harbour Housing over the years.
Harbour Housing is a Cornish charity whose mission is to provide homes and support for individuals who would otherwise face life on the street.
The charity is putting the donated money towards the printing of new heartfelt end of life planners it is creating for its clients with a terminal diagnosis.
The planners are a sensitive way for clients to communicate their last wishes and share cherished memories, profound thoughts and sincere wishes.
The charity’s hospital discharge team is designing the planners in conjunction with clients across Cornwall.
Charity trustee Gareth Bray, who is also the chair of St Austell Christians Together, said: “I am privileged to be connected with Harbour Housing as a trustee and former chairman. Their esteemed end of life care services for rough sleepers showcase the outstanding work they do. They are one of the few providers in the country that offer this particular service for individuals who are homeless or are at risk of being homeless with a terminal diagnosis.”
Harbour Housing operations director Malcolm Putko said: “Mount Charles Church’s generosity over the years is truly inspiring. It serves as a profound example of kindness and selflessness, reminding us all of the impact donations can have in helping the homeless community.
“We are deeply grateful for Mount Charles Church’s unwavering support and dedication.”
The charity does not discriminate based on behaviours or issues the person faces, such as addictions or mental ill health, but at all of its properties provides a safe environment and person-centred support to help people transition towards a life of independent living.
