A new colourful mural is being created in Newquay town centre to help attract visitors.
Talented artist Jo Hicks aka Hixxy is painting a design of oversized bouncing beach balls on the wall of the Unity building on Gover Lane.

The ‘town to beach’ design aims to portray how the Newquay population explodes during the peak holiday season.
The bouncing beach balls will symbolise holidaymakers arriving in the town and making their way down the hill to the beach.
The mural will also depict how residents and the town copes with the ebb and flow of the visitor influx both positively and negatively.
The design will feature the different impacts holidaymakers have on the town’s infrastructure including traffic, parking, hotels and holiday lets.
The beach ball mural, which is due to be completed by Saturday, is being organised by Jack Tierney from Slapdash Studio and Newquay BID.
The vibrant artwork is being funded by the Cornwall Council’s Town Delivery Fund, which aims to help revitalise town centres.
Newquay BID manager Mark Warren said: “The new mural is going to be another amazing addition to the mural project that has been happening in Newquay town centre.
“It is going to be fabulous and will really brighten up Gover Lane.”
Hixxy is an artist and designer based between London and Dublin.
She is known for her large-scale murals and her work embraces a “nostalgic feel” with a “contemporary and surreal sensibility.”
Jo’s been making and creating from an early age and went on to study fine art in Liverpool.
At art school she experimented with all kinds of conceptual ideas and mediums, falling in love with the process of collage, painting and screenprint.
As ambition grew she needed larger screens and canvas.
Jo’s brother Edd introduced her to street art and encouraged large scale painting.
The transition from printing to painting was a logical natural development .
Forward on some years, Jo has now collaborated with high-profile brands, institutions, independent businesses, and community groups.
She has produced a diverse portfolio of nationwide commercial work over the past seven years.
The vibrant beach ball artwork will form part of a free street art walking trail celebrating Newquay’s unique heritage and identity.
The first mural unveiled was an abstract beach scheme created by Cornwall-based artist Kleiner Shames at MIX NQY in East Street.
The second artwork features a fisherman tending to his nets at the junction of Fore Street and Sydney Road, which was created by Elle Koziupa.
Artist 45 RPM created the third mural, an illustrative and playful design on the back of The Walkabout at The Crescent.
The mural features elements like surfing, palm trees, crabs, fishing nets, and camping.
Mr Warren added: “The mural scheme is a huge footfall driver, which means people spend more time in the town, the shops and the beach.
“This will be an all year round opportunity to help attract people and there will be QR codes to provide more information about the artist and design.”
