A Newquay chef is helping put Newquay on the culinary map after being selected as a finalist in a national competition.
Chef Eshan Mo Miah will be representing Zaman’s in Henver Road at the Tommy Miah’s International Chef of the Year competition held in Birmingham on Sunday, September 29.
He will be among eight finalists from around at the country competing in a cook off at the famous Varanasi restaurant in Birmingham, which will be followed by the awards ceremony at the Macdonald Burlington Hotel.
The judging panel for the competition will include a host industry leader and influencers. More than 300 people will be attending the gala awards ceremony.
A spokesperson for the competition said: “Congratulations to Eshan who has been awarded a place in the final.
“Eshan’s selection for the final is a fantastic achievement. Eshan has beaten worldwide competition to earn the right to perform before a global audience.
“Tommy Miah’s International Chef of the Year launched in March 2024 in the UK. Since then, a global field of over 2,000 applicants have been whittled down to just eight finalists, who will compete in the final in Birmingham.”
Eshan said: “I am very pleased to be short-listed to the final of this prestigious award.
“It is a great achievement and what a way to celebrate the first anniversary of my kidney transplant. I am so delighted, putting Newquay on the map and hopefully I will do Newquay proud by bringing the award home.”
