The third Armed Forces Community Next Steps Careers Fair will take place on Wednesday, September  27, at Heartlands in Pool, near Redruth.

Cornwall Council has teamed up with Active Plus, Wessex, Job Centre Plus, Reed in Partnership and Armed Forces Covenant to run the free event where veterans, service leavers and their families will be able to meet businesses from Cornwall’s leading sectors, to explore transferable skills and qualifications from engineering to health and social care.

Representatives from support organisations and training providers will also be on hand with advice to help with career transition.

‘Danny’ Daniell, managing director of Active Plus, said: “Careers fairs are an essential part of the transition from a military to a civilian career. They provide a great opportunity to network and meet potential employers, training providers, support organisations and members of the armed forces community who have lived experience of leaving the services.

“Events like this play a key role in understanding transferrable skills, the job market and entry level qualifications and are equally important to those planning their transition and those that have already left the armed forces.

Louis Gardner, Cornwall Council’s armed forces and veterans champion and cabinet portfolio holder for economy, said: “As a veteran myself, I appreciate how valuable this kind of event is for service leavers on their resettlement journey.”

The event will take place between 10am and 4pm. Tickets are available from Eventbrite. Businesses wishing to attend can contact William Chapman [email protected]
