A BUSINESS in St Austell that supplies building materials has brought in equipment to turn its premises greener.

Bradfords Building Supplies has had 91 solar panels installed at its site off Manfield Way on the Holmbush Industrial Estate.

The premises have been made more sustainable by the firm, which was established more than 250 years ago, as part of a wider project across the country.

The family-owned builders’ merchants launched its solar initiative to combat rising energy costs and support climate action.

Head of sustainability Giles Bradford said: “This project aligns perfectly with our vision for sustainability in the built environment. We’re proud to lead by example, demonstrating that renewable energy solutions are practical, economical and vital for the future.

“Our work in Cornwall highlights the tangible benefits of solar energy. The St Austell branch reflects our broader mission to embrace sustainable practices across the business.”

The St Austell branch expects to use up to 70 percent of the electricity created and to see the investment pay for itself within four years.

The solar panels have been installed at St Austell by commercial solar specialists GB NRG, which placed similar panels at another 13 Bradfords sites around the UK.

John Richards, of GB NRG, said: “We’re thrilled to have partnered with Bradfords and helped them to achieve substantial savings on their energy bills and reinforce their commitment to clean energy. Their forward-thinking approach sets a benchmark for businesses looking to embrace renewable energy.”

A spokesperson for Bradfords said: “This investment is a visible step towards greener operations and a testament to the role businesses can play in addressing climate challenges.

“The installations highlight Bradfords’ commitment to sustainability, reinforcing its reputation to customers, employees and the local community as a forward-thinking business dedicated to embracing clean energy.”

Bradfords has its sights set on further solar installations at additional sites.
