More than 50 women and a few men wore their finest frocks to take part in the annual ‘Ballgowns on the Beach’ event staged at Towan Beach on New Year’s Eve.
The popular event was first staged during the COVID pandemic as people could not see out the year in style due to the lockdown.
Organiser Katie Richards said: “Ballgowns on The Beach started back in 2020 when in the midst of a lockdown pubs and clubs were closed and the chance to conventionally celebrate the new year with friends was not possible. As an alternative we threw on our party frocks and instead met on the beach maintaining social distancing in small groups of six.
“The following year word spread and we were nearly 100 on the sand in our glad rags, 2024 was our fifth gathering and it’s now become a firm fixture on the celebratory calendar of many of us.
“It’s about seeing out the old year with frivolity and fun, a chance to dress up and just do something a little bit crazy with friends.”
