A Newquay beach is appealing for donations of unwanted and unused toys for its annual fundraiser.
Lusty Glaze Beach is holding its seventh annual toy amnesty throughout January for Children’s Hospice South West.
People are invited to bring in donations of children’s toys, games, books, clothes for children up to the age of 16 in exchange for a free tea or coffee as a thank you.
The Lusty Glaze team will then drop the items off to Children’s Hospice South West at the end of the month to help the charity whose mission is to make the most of short and precious lives by providing free care for children with life-limiting conditions, and their families.
New toys will remain at Little Harbour at Porthpean in St Austell to be loved by children who are receiving care at the hospice, whilst preloved items will be sent to Children’s Hospice South West charity shops, where they will help raise the vital funds needed to support the charity’s work.
Andi Millson, the operations manager at Lusty Glaze, said: "We love kicking off each year supporting such a meaningful charity, and we’re proud to be part of this for the seventh year.
“It's inspiring to witness the generosity of our local community, and comforting to know that Children’s Hospice South West will use these contributions to support families through the most unimaginable circumstances this time of year.
"We’re once again offering free teas and coffees to everyone who takes the time to come down and make a donation.
“Cornish Coffee are kindly donating delicious local coffee beans in support of this cause."
Adam from Cornish Coffee added: “It’s great to be part of the Toy Amnesty again this year. We’re proud to be supporting this local initiative.”
Alice Merrett, the area fundraiser at Children’s Hospice South West, said: “Each year, we’re moved by the kindness of the community.
“Little Harbour faces running costs of over £3-million a year to cover the specialist respite, palliative, emergency, end-of-life, and bereavement care we provide.
“Any support we receive towards this is greatly appreciated as we rely heavily on voluntary contributions to reach this figure."
The Lusty Glaze Beach Café is open daily to receive donations from 9.30am to 4.30pm.
