Author Maz Evan visited Cornwall last week as part of the ongoing mission of St Austell Festival of Children’s Literature to develop a love of reading for pleasure in the community.

Performing for more than 1,500 children and educators, the creator of the best-selling series Who Let The Gods Out? toured WTW cinemas in Truro, St Austell and Newquay as part of the launch for her latest publication, Oh Maya Gods.

Packed full of edge-of-your-seat adventure, belly laughs and Mayan mythology, the book was a real hit with audiences from mid-Cornwall schools.

A teacher from Mount Charles said: “You had our children and staff holding their sides with laughter. We definitely have lots of new Maz Evans fans in the club, and more children excited to read.”

Simon Pollard, headteacher of Carclaze Primary School and festival founder, said: “This event exceeded expectations. Maz was an amazing entertainer as well as a fantastic author. Everyone was so enthralled, and children haven’t stopped talking about the book.”

Look out for details of the next event in November, which will be linked to national non-fiction and feature a real-life explorer.
