A vandal wasted no time and has spray painted the new bridges along the Newquay strategic route before its opening.

Various tags have been sprayed on the bridges, which are due to be removed.

Neighbour Paul Hautot said: “Some loser has seen fit to spray the new Newquay Strategic Route road bridges. A million pound granite facing job has been messed up.”

A spokesperson for Cornwall Council said: “We are disappointed with the vandalism at the site and have reported the incident to the police for investigation.

“The graffiti will be removed and we are reviewing security arrangements on site to prevent any further unauthorised access.”

Tagging has reportedly become an increasing issue in Newquay town centre and surrounding areas. A new initiative is underway to remove graffiti following a spate of tagging on buildings. Construction company Kier has teamed up with Love Newquay and Brandon Trust to kickstart the clean-up and are encouraging business owners, landlords and residents to join them.
