A MAJOR search operation was launched after a man went missing in Newquay.
Newquay Coastguard Rescue Team, HM Coastguard Padstow, and Newquay RNLI Lifeboats were tasked to assist Devon & Cornwall Police with a search in the East Pentire and South Fistral area on Monday, March 17, at 9pm.
A police helicopter was also deployed to assist.
Concerns were raised for the welfare of a man in the Tower Road area at 8.40pm.
It was confirmed that he had been on the wrong side of the railings on a cliff before being pulled to safety by security staff at a nearby pub.
The man was located safe on Esplanade Road and spoken to by the mental health team before being taken home.
A spokesperson for Newquay Coastguard said: “After a search of the area the individual was located and handed over to the police before all assets were stood down.”
A spokesperson for Newquay RNLI Lifeboats added: “Search teams ashore located the missing person in the South Fistral area shortly after our arrival.
“We were stood down with thanks and returned to Newquay Harbour at 10.15pm, where both lifeboats were recovered and made ready for service.”
