A GROUP of 17 people from Truro’s twin town of Morlaix recently enjoyed a sunny long weekend in the city, hosted by local families from the Truro-Morlaix Twinning Association.

The visit began with a reception at the offices of Truro City Council. Newly-elected mayor Cllr Chris Wells welcomed the group and presented a print of Truro Cathedral by artist Leonardo Santolamazza.to the leaders of the French group, Pascale Spies and Philippe Allanic. Hosts and visitors later enjoyed an excellent formal meal at Cygnets Restaurant, part of Tehidy Park Golf Club.

Saturday morning was taken up with an interesting visit to Healey’s Cyder Farm, learning about the history of the Healey family and getting an insight into their production methods of cider and gin, and naturally sampling the produce. The day ended with a bring-and-share meal at Carnon Downs. On Sunday, everyone donned hard hats to explore Carnglaze Caverns.

During their free time, the Morlaix visitors were encouraged by their hosts to get to know Truro better, visit the countryside and walk along the coast. A display to celebrate the visit was put in the window of the Truro tourist information office in Boscawen Street.

The party departed on Monday to catch the overnight ferry from Plymouth to Roscoff. Members from Truro are looking forward to making a reciprocal visit to Morlaix in September.

Rachel Killick, Truro-Morlaix Twinning Association chair, said: “The thriving twinning link between Truro and Morlaix is a beacon of mutual understanding, trust and affection amongst all the uncertainties of today’s troubled world, bearing vital witness to the long-standing, cross-Channel bonds of civic and personal friendship that sustain and enrich the cultural and social experience of both our communities.”
