A single mother from Trispen lost her home between Christmas and New Year when her caravan was burnt to the ground in a suspected arson attack.
Kathryn (Kat) Wills described the “heartbreak” of being left homeless on December 29. She and four-year-old son Leo lost all their possessions — including Christmas presents opened days earlier — other than the clothes on their backs.
A GoFundMe page has been launched to raise £10,000 while the pair stay with Kat’s mother.
“I have worked hard all my life for what we built, and the fire has destroyed everything I own, stuff that can never be replaced,” said Kat, 44, who is a full-time registered nurse and deputy manager with Sanctuary Care.
“Unfortunately, I wasn’t insured. The money from the GoFundMe page will help to clear the site and all the damage that was done there – we will need diggers and skips.
“After that, I’ll be looking for whatever can be provided - we’re starting from scratch.”
Kat had been living in the 40’ by 12’ caravan for nine years. “It’s how I live, and enjoy living.” Six geese, three chickens and two cats escaped the blaze; Kat returns to the site twice daily to feed them.
