Camborne councillor Paul White has launched am appeal for residents to increase their recycling rates.
Cllr White wants people in the town to consider what they are throwing in the rubbish.
He said: “I have been made aware the central Trelowarren area of Camborne has a low household recycling rate.
“At the moment the Cornwall average for recycling is 28.94 per cent; Camborne Roskear and Tuckingmill’s rate is 17.53 per cent and Camborne West & Treswithian is 25.28 per cent.
“I think we could increase this a lot and I would urge all the residents of Camborne to look at what they are throwing in the bin and recycle anything you possibly can.
“I know many people in Camborne do a great job recycling but others have yet to start and it would be great if we could get these recycling rates in Camborne a lot higher.”
Cllr White said recycling is something everyone can do from home, adding: “It is one of the simplest and easiest things we can all do to help the environment. Every time you recycle an aluminium can, you’re saving 95 per cent of the energy it would take to make another can new from raw materials.
“If you would like to help to get the recycling rates up for Camborne you can order recycling bags and a box and find out what day we collect from you by visiting www.cornwall.gov.ukwww.cornwall.gov.uk/recycling
“Recycling is great, but reducing your waste is even better. ”
