WADEBRIDGE Seconds will welcome Callington or Werrington in the last four of the Hawkey Cup after a six-wicket derby win at St Minver last night.

Wadebridge were promoted from Division Two East last summer and started as favourites against their village neighbours who have had a solid start to the season themselves in the third-tier.

St Minver chose to bat and former home favourite Charlie Hawken struck in the first over, bowling Antony Ash for a duck.

Ryan Pooley carried on from where he left off against Bude at the weekend as he took advantage of the powerplay.

Jonny Centini was in and out for seven against his former club, but Pooley and South African overseas Reece Thompson started to get the ball to the boundary with regularity.

Thompson went for 16, caught by Charlie Hawken off Jamie Beare, and when former Wadebridge all-rounder Alek Gill was stumped for a single off Charlie Ellis (1-19 off four), the innings was on a knife edge at 54-4.

Kieran Gill made 15 in a 27-run stand with Pooley, but three quick wickets left them in big trouble at 87-7.

Fifteen was added with Dean Jeffery but at 102-8 with just 14 balls remaining, the visitors were well on top.

Pooley went to 50 and then cut loose as he struck Charlie Hawken for two fours and two sixes in the 19th over which went for 23.

Eight came off the first three balls off the final over bowled by impressive youngster Tom Clarke (4-20 off three) who then bowled Pooley for a superb 80 (60 balls, 11 fours and two sixes) and last man Jack Gill as the innings finished on 137.

Wadebridge will have fancied their chances at the break, and openers Alex Forward and Sam Richards ensured there was no early trouble as they got through to 35-0 after the six-over powerplay.

Forward then cut loose, hammering four sixes and a four in a five-ball spell which almost sealed the match as they reached 85-0 at the halfway point.

St Minver finally got a breakthrough in the 12th over as Richards was lbw to Dean Jeffery for 42.

But the runs kept flowing and although Thompson returned to pick up a couple of late wickets and Neil Meneer bowled Forward for 64 from 49 deliveries, they were home and hosed with 14 balls to spare.
