ECB Cornwall Premier League (Saturday)
Truro v Helston
TRURO made it four straight wins in the Premier Division as they overcame a battling Helston outfit by 47 runs at Boscawen Park.
The city club are back in the top-flight after losing their ever-present status in 2022, but are up to the giddy heights of third after a slow start, and most crucially of all are 31 points clear of bottom side St Just.
Saturday’s game saw them choose to bat and openers Harry Phillips (33) and Charlie Kent provided the perfect platform before they and number three Jaco Van Greunen fell in quick succession to the teenage off-spinner Lewis Stephens (3-34).
Pakistani pro Amir Yamin and Murray Wyatt then rebuilt the innings with Yamin stroking 45 from just 36 balls before he was caught and bowled by South African overseas player Lance Alberts (148-4).
Wyatt steadily made his way to 36 before he departed having added 34 with Adam Price.
Price was then joined by Rob Harrison who smashed two sixes in a quickfire 15, and with Price batting through for 42 from 38 balls, they finished on 238-8.
Stephens was the pick of the attack while skipper Mark Jenkin took 2-36 from five overs at the end.
Helston’s strength is their batting but they lost the in-form Billy Taylor first ball lbw to Yamin (2-40) offering no shot.
At 65-1 with Justin Stephens (22) and Karl Leathley (22) in the omens looked good, but Truro’s bowlers kept at it with five of the six bowlers used taking two each.
Helston lost six wickets for just 25 runs, but kept battling away.
Skipper Jenkin made an unbeaten 31 and with number ten Gavin Tregenza smashing 47 from 37 it was game on.
However the end came on 191 with six balls remaining.
Neil Ivamy was the pick with 2-17 from 8 overs.
