CORNWALL CRICKET LEAGUE COUNTY DIVISION ONE (SUNDAY)
Wadebridge 2 v Roche
ROCHE’S hopes of finishing outside of the bottom four took a blow on Sunday as Wadebridge Seconds earned a 27-run success at Egloshayle Park.
Both sides had their Saturday games cancelled, but conditions had improved enough for play as Roche chose to field.
But Wadebridge openers Paul Menhenick and Sam Richards put on a century stand of 114 to give the Swans a perfect platform which ultimately won them the game.
Menhenick, who faced 96 balls for his 60 which included six fours and a six, was eventually trapped lbw by Shaun Trudgeon.
After that Roche fought back well as they took wickets at regular intervals.
Skipper Ross McLachlan was lbw to Tyler Trudgeon for 12, before Shaun Trudgeon had the dangerous Jamie Beare caught behind by Dan Robotham for a single.
Rob Centini was soon run out, and when Sam Richards departed for 76 it was 175-6.
Tom Wood made a crucial 27 not out towards the end as Wadebridge reached a competitive 201-8 from their 50 overs.
Four of Roche’s six-man attack went at less than four an over with Stewart May (2-34) and Shaun Trudgeon (2-36) taking a brace.
Roche’s reply started slowly, but having reached 23-0 they lost three wickets for just eight runs, two of those to Jamie Beare (2-34).
The innings was rebuilt somewhat as Shaun Trudgeon shared 30-plus stands with both James Cole and Ryan Clark, but from 94-4 they fell to 112-7 with young spinner Tom Clarke (3-42) striking twice.
With ten overs to go, Roche needed more than eight an over, and although Robotham struck nine boundaries in his 55 not out from 44 deliveries, they couldn’t quite get the momentum going to have a real blast as they closed on 174-9, meaning Wadebridge took 18 points to their seven.
