ECB Cornwall Premier League (Saturday)

St Austell v Truro

TRURO recorded a third straight victory as a fine all-round team performance saw them win by 35 runs at St Austell on Saturday.

Charlie Kent’s side had beaten Redruth and Camborne in their previous two outings and made 178-9 at Wheal Eliza.

And while that might have been slightly under par, a superb bowling performance saw the Saints slip to defeat.

Truro lost opener Harry Phillips for 11, and although the rest of the top four of Charlie Kent (40), Jaco Van Greunen (30) and Amir Yamin (31) got starts, they were in a spot of bother at 115-5.

But 15 from Adam Price and 25 from Rob Harrison helped them set a competitive score.

St Austell’s bowlers all did well, skipper Gary Bone leading from the front with 3-26 from his ten overs, while Adam Snowdon (3-32 off 10) wasn’t far behind.

The Saints batsmen found it tough to score from the outset, but were along well at 81-1 in the 25th over when Dan Jarman departed for 29.

Curtis Dalby (25) went soon after at 85-3, again to Adam Price (2-23 off 10), and from there the Saints never recovered.

Neil Ivamy (2-12 off 8) dismissed the dangerous Alex Bone for just two before trapping the returning Taylor Williams lbw for nought, while former Saints seamer Conway Gilbert (3-41) was brought back on to take out Connor Cooke, Adam Snowdon and the last wicket of Dan Standing.

Yamin (3-17 off 9), who had earlier bowled opener Mike Bone for eight was brought back after they slipped to 120-5, and soon took out Gary Bone and Steve Raven as four wickets fell four nine runs.

Standing (1) and last man Liam Watson (9no) delayed the inevitable.

St Austell drop to third ahead of Saturday’s trip to Redruth, while Truro are up to fifth before their home clash with Helston.
