ELEVEN Newquay Road Runners took part in the Weymouth Half Marathon last Sunday.

First NRR back was Glynn Talling in a time of 1:43:30 and first female was Sarah Wilkinson at 1:47:00, leading home a total of 11 Newquay athletes.

Special mention to Sarah, who was also first in her age category, picking up a 10min PB in the process, a fine achievement.

Christian Green of Wells City Harriers won the race in a time of 1:10:35, first lady was Nat Lawrence of Egdon Heath Harriers in a time of 1:21:50 and 26th place overall.

Some 1,097 participants were blessed with the weather which chose to break from the recent rain and winds and bathe the runners in some much needed spring sunshine.

A wonderful day for a scenic half marathon, the eighth time this event has taken place, hiding a few short hills in the second half to test those tired legs.

NRR results: 213rd Glynn Talling 1:43:30; 280th Sarah Wilkinson 1:47:00; 286th Richard Kell 1:47:29; 306th Mandy Watts 1:48:51; 347th Lauren Webster 1:51:31; 438th Lisa Talling 1:56:38; 596th Harriet Best 2:08:01; 619th John Beard 2:09:33; 740th Sally Bowden 2:20:10; 746th Alan Byron 2:20:40; 752nd Stephen Henry 2:21:17.

Meanwhile, four of Newquay’s finest athletes took up the challenge of the mid-week Run Exe 5 miles.

The course is described as being a fast, flat-out-and-back two laps on the Exmouth seafront.

The weather didn’t play its part in helping the athletes in any shape or form as there were gale-force winds accompanied by heavy rain from the start.

The event was won by Exmouth Harrier, Oliver White, in a respectable time of 26 minutes 51 seconds.  The first lady home was South West RR, Rosie Mew Smith, whose excellent time of 28.52 placed her fourth overall.

John Scott led the Newquay Road Runners home in a fine time of 30.24 which placed him 12th overall and second in his 55-59 Male category.

Eleanor Dixon is in fine form as shown by her 1 minute personal best time of 33.55 which placed her 29th overall and fifth lady, this outstanding performance placed her second in the Female 45-49 category.

Simon Howard finished 44th overall in a time of 39.15 which placed him second in the Male 45-49 category.

Travelling up with the NRR contingent were Newquay Tretherras & N&P athlete Ethan Lusty, whose time of 31.39 placed him 18th overall and second in the male U17 category.
