West Cornwall Table Tennis League round-up - week commencing Monday, February 3
BRIDGE A remain favourites for the Premier Division title after a 10-0 success over visiting Creekside A on Tuesday night.
They dropped just two sets as the trio of David Plumb, Paul Jenkin and Karim Ali moved six points clear of Bridge C who beat their D counterparts 7-3.
Tom Clack and Kelly Plumb were unbeaten for the Cs but Callan Hurst suffered defeats to Mike Kent, Harry Stanbury and Beth Badcock.
Bridge B are three off top spot after seeing off St Austell B 10-0.
Malcolm Peters and the two Lobbs – Stephen and Graham – proved too strong.
Cape Cornwall A picked up a 5-5 draw at mid-table Peoples Palace A which means Penpol A drop to the bottom.
A superb treble for Thomas Trembath plus a victory for Tom Wheatley and their combination in the doubles proved enough despite doubles from Ashley Taylor and Nevil Thomas and a win for Chris Stevens.
Penpol A made the long trip down to Mounts Bay A with just two players and were beaten 9-1.
Andrew Senior edged out John Holman in a decider, but Mark Cock and Rob Dyer were unbeaten all evening.
They and Cape Cornwall sit four points behind Creekside A.
The other game saw Falmouth Docks A welcome fellow mid-table side St Austell A where they played out a 5-5 draw.
Jeremy Hartley was at the double for the hosts, but it was Alfie Tangye who took the man of the match gong with a treble for the Saints.
Their other points came from Max Hill and James Wakeham with Aiden Rollason and Morgan Cardell also winning one apiece.
In Division One, leaders Godolphin A continue to cruise towards the title after a 9-1 success over their C team.
Although William Trott saw off Tyrone Staniland for the bottom side’s point, trebles for Rick Gonzalez and Jamie Staniland ensured they sit 21 points clear of Bridge E in second.
Simon Williams’ hat-trick coupled with Austin Chapman’s double helped Bridge E to a 7-3 success at Mounts Bay B. Peter Linton secured a brace for the hosts.
Elsewhere in the division, St Austell D ran out 6-4 winners at Peoples Palace B despite Paul Mallen’s hat-trick for the Truro-based club.
Jaydon Lehane and Peter Conway both won twice for the Saints.
Creekside B ran out 7-3 winners over visitors Falmouth Docks C.
Jack Cortis was man of the match for the hosts with a hat-trick while three other players on the night – Jane Leigh, John Tuffery and Joe Wood (Falmouth) – won twice.
Falmouth Docks D lost by the same scoreline to visiting Godolphin B.
Simon Fleming, Stephen Blyth and Curry Vincent all lost to Jon Sweet, but beat Howard Charman and Justin Hinshelwood.
In Division Two, there’s a three-way battle at the top with Cape Cornwall B, Godolphin D and Penpol B battling it out.
Cape have a four-point lead over Penpol in third having played twice more, and are just a point ahead of Godolphin who have a game in-hand.
At the bottom, just five points Godolphin E in last and third bottom Mounts Bay D.
The results were as follows: Cape Cornwall B 6-4 Peoples Palace C; Godolphin D 8-2 Nets and Edges; Godolphin E 7-3 St Agnes B; Mounts Bay D 5-5 Perranzabuloe; Penpol B 8-2 Redruth Cricket Club; St Agnes A 7-3 Creekside C.
In the bottom tier, Division Three, Peoples Palace D have a nine-point lead over Cape Cornwall C and Falmouth Docks D, while St Austell E and F sit at the bottom.
The results were: Cape Cornwall C 3-7 Falmouth Docks D, St Austell E 0-10 Creekside E; St Austell F 7-3 Creekside D.
