Truro 1 St Austell 1

The rain poured down as the Saints’ starting 11 took to the pitch at Truro School. There were high stakes on this game after both teams topped the table in Trelawney 2 last season.

St Austell took the game to Truro when they intercepted their play early on. Despite the Saints’ high press, Truro were soon to retaliate.

Throughout the first half, Truro had a number of short corners which St Austell fiercely defended and prevented them from converting. Beth Horwell, stepping into midfield, was relentless out on the left hand side, constantly pinching the ball off of Truro and creating opportunities for St Austell to break forward.

The second half was controlled by St Austell; they dominated and worked relentlessly to apply pressure on the opposition.

Saints took the lead when a sideline ball created a break; players flooded the circle, the ball pinging between Charlotte Jarman and Kellie Williams. Jarman received the slip at the top of the D and smashed it past the keeper.

Unfortunately, as the play continued, the decisions weren’t going in St Austell’s favour. Truro equalised and St Austell had to up their game once more. However, with the final minutes closing in, the Saints weren’t giving up and continually put Truro on the back foot.

Thank you to our wonderful supporters who came and cheered us on despite the awful weather.

This weekend is the last game before the Christmas break, where St Austell are back on home ground to welcome Plymouth Marjon.
