FALMOUTH Town are the sole Cornish side from Southern League Division One South left in the FA Trophy after easing past Cindeford Town 3-0 at Bickland Park on Saturday in the first qualifying round.
Andy Westgarth’s men were under the cosh in the first half, but took the lead in the second minute of injury time when Luke Brabyn cut in off the right and lashed home.
Rubin Wilson made it 2-0 just two minutes after the restart as he won the ball off a centre-back before finishing with aplomb.
The tie was wrapped up in the 91st minute as fine feet from sub Cam Hutchison set up the impressive Oscar Massey for a tap-in.
While Falmouth are through, there was penalty heartache for both Helston Athletic and Mousehole.
Helston welcomed Melksham Town in a tight affair with most of the drama reserved for the dying stages.
The Blues did create some chances, which mainly fell to striker Reece Thomson, but it was Melksham who took an 89thminute lead when Mark Cooper fired in following a corner, but Plymouth Parkway loanee Jack Crago kept the Blues in it with a 92nd minute header.
But it was Town’s keeper Alfie Kelsey that was the hero as he saved three of Helston’s penalties to send the Wiltshire side through.
Up in Hampshire, Mousehole were beaten 7-6 on penalties by Bashley after a 1-1 draw.
In a tight, tense affair in the rain, it was the Stags that went in front on 44 minutes.
But Mousehole are made of stern stuff and responded 11 minutes from time as Ross Derham tapped into an empty net.
The spot-kicks went to sudden death before a miss sent Bashley through where they will welcome Falmouth.
National League South side Truro City come into the competition in the later rounds.
