Southern League Division One South preview for Saturday, August 31

FALMOUTH Town and Helston Athletic are both in league action tomorrow in the only two games in the division.

While plenty are in FA Cup action, the two Cornish clubs who both secured promotion from the Western League Premier Division last term, are on their travels.

Helston, who enjoyed a dream Bank Holiday weekend by winning at Didcot Town in the FA Trophy and then overcame injury-hit Cornish rivals Mousehole on Monday 4-2 thanks to doubles from Jack Crago and Aaron Bentley, head to the Forest of Dean to take on Cinderford Town.

Helston’s league form has been good so far since winning the title.

They started with a 2-1 victory at Westbury United which was followed up by a 2-2 draw against much-fancied Willand Rovers before the Cornish derby victory on Monday.

And they will back themselves to make it ten points from a possible 12 in Gloucestershire as Cinderford have lost all four of their games, conceding 11 in the process.

Falmouth’s season has been even more stop-start.

Town, who won the Western League play-off final against Clevedon to reach Step Four for the first time in their history, saw their opening day trip to Bashley postponed, with the game being rearranged for tomorrow (3pm).

Since then they have picked up four points from games against Tavistock and Willand at Bickland Park.

Tavi were seen off 1-0 with Bradley Leivers’ 55th minute goal the difference, before the Willand clash was a classic tail of two halves.

Tom Annear’s goal either side of Luke Barner’s double gave the Cornishmen a 3-0 lead at the break, but three goals in 11 second half minutes, either side of the hour sent the Devonians home with a point.

Falmouth were not in action on Bank Holiday Monday but were beaten at Barnstaple Town in the FA Cup last Saturday, so will hope the week gap will see them return to their usual selves against a Bashley side that have won against Cinderford Town (2-1) and Thatcham Town (2-0) either side of a 2-1 home defeat to Yate Town.

Mousehole have the weekend off.
