NATIONAL LEAGUE TWO WEST (SATURDAY)

Hinckley 39 Camborne 44

Camborne maintained their lead at the top of the table in Leicestershire.

The Cornishmen scored with their first attack as Josh Matavesi’s well-timed pass allowed wing Alex Ducker to slice through the defence to dot down.

Kyle Moyle knocked over the routine conversion but the home side quickly retaliated with a penalty (3-7).

Moyle then landed two penalties, the latter from near halfway, before winger Jack Davis raced over unopposed for a corner try still inside the first quarter (18-3).

Hinckley then hit back as the half wore on, chipping away at the lead with a brace of tries, both converted to reduce the arrears to 18-17.

On 32 minutes ‘Town’ hooker Ben Priddey steered over a driving close-range maul and Moyle duly added the extras to increase the advantage, although Hinckley fought back again before the break to make it 25-24.

Soon after the break the home side briefly led courtesy of a penalty, but the Cherry & Whites swiftly replied when centre Matavesi’s strong run and sublime offload created the bonus point try for flanker Adam Hughes.

Going into the final quarter Hinckley went in front 34-30 with a converted effort, but again Camborne quickly hit back with the prolific Priddey going over from a catch and drive for Moyle to convert.

Priddey crucially repeated the dose soon after for yet another hat-trick to seal a hard-earned victory.

Although Hinckley then scored a late consolation try, Camborne were not to be denied.
