NATIONAL LEAGUE TWO (WEST)
Taunton 38 Camborne 38
CAMBORNE remain top of the National Two West table after a stunning late comeback ensured a share of the spoils and three points in a high-quality ten-try thriller at fourth-placed Taunton.
The home side dominated the early exchanges, eventually going ahead courtesy of a converted catch and drive score.
The Cherry and Whites soon hit back when a superb offload from Harry Larkins gave flanker Jordan Rose the opportunity to side step and go over for Kyle Moyle to convert.
On 27 minutes ‘Town’ took the lead for the only time in the game as centre Josh Matavesi charged through the midfield on a 20-metre run to the try line. Full-back Moyle added the extras for 7-14.
Crucially a 32nd minute yellow card for the visitors allowed Taunton to grab a brace of converted touchdowns before the half-time whistle.
Trailing 21-14 at the resumption and still a man down, Camborne soon slipped further behind to the Titans’ bonus point converted try.
But the Cherry and Whites dominated the remainder of the third quarter, and were rewarded via a kick through and chase try from right wing Larkins. Moyle’s conversion reduced the lead to seven.
Penalties were traded on the hour before a fifth Taunton converted try on 65 minutes made it 38-24.
But although Alex Ducker had a try chalked off for a forward pass soon after, the left wing was not to be denied an excellent chip and chase corner touchdown. Moyle’s superb conversion made it 38-31.
Camborne went on the attack and twice drove for the line from set scrums before replacement scrum-half Will Tanswell went over from a delightful close range show and go.
Ice cool Moyle duly slotted the pressure conversion to level the scores before Camborne resolutely dug deep in defence to the final whistle.
