ST COLUMB Boxing Club’s Riley Murphy was victorious in his first bout at Camborne and Redruth ABC on Saturday, April 20.
Riley, who a week earlier had taken part in his final skills outing, took on Camborne and Redruth’s James Williams, and the bout started with both boxers exchanging shots to head and body.
But from there on, Riley started getting the better of the exchanges and deciding he could push forward more.
Then, after landing a bunch of unanswered blows, the referee stopped the action to give the Camborne boxer an eight count.
Upon getting to the end of eight, he decided he had seen enough and stopped the bout.
Club coach Paul Doust said: “Coach Charlie Scott said Riley stuck to his boxing and did what was asked of him, and the first round stoppage was a great start to his journey with the St Columb boxing team.”
