Brad Pauls, the Newquay Bomb, lost out in his bid to win the English middleweight title at the OVO Wembley Arena tonight.

The 29-year-old suffered his first defeat in 17 professional fights, against defending champion Tyler Denny from the West Midlands, who was unanimously voted the winner after 10 gruelling three-minute rounds.

Pauls started the fight tentatively and by the end of the fifth round he was deemed to be four rounds behind.

Denny went on the attack in rounds 7 and 8 but Pauls stood firm and came back well in the last two rounds, although it was not enough.
