SWPL Premier West side Newquay have made their first signing of the summer by drawing Mousehole midfielder Callam Mconie back to Mount Wise.

The Peppermints are looking to mount a title push in SWPL Premier West having finished fourth last year in boss Shaun Middleton’s first season in charge, and the signing of Mconie who was a regular in the Seagulls side that finished in the top six of the Southern League Division One South and West last season, is a major coup.

Reflecting on the move, MacConie, who spent three seasons at Trungle Parc, told the Newquay website: “I’m absolutely delighted to have signed for Newquay and I am hoping to play a big part in bringing success to Mount Wise.

“I love what Middsy and the club have created over the previous year on and off the pitch, and I’m excited to hopefully play a part in taking the club to the next step.”

Reflecting on Callam’s return, boss Shaun Middleton told the Newquay AFC website: ““Getting Callam back to Newquay is a massive signing and it shows where we want to take this club.

“He has dropped two leagues to be a part of something that we’re building, and he is chomping at the bit. He is an unreal talent with a great football brain and wand of a left foot.

“We expect big things from Macca this season and I can’t wait to see him back in a red and white shirt. The supporters are in for a real treat and I know our fans will be very excited!”

Newquay have also found out their first opponents in the SWPL League Cup. They have been drawn away to Premier East outfit Axminster Town in the second round, and are set to visit Tiger Way on Saturday, October 12 (3pm).
