FIFTY-FOUR Hayle runners were some of over 350 participants who took on the Turkey Trot in Redruth on Wednesday, July 17.
This hilly four-miler is race number eight in the Cornish Grand Prix Race Series.
The route started in Tolgus Mount before heading out to Illogan and back towards Illogan Highway, then returning to Tolgus Mount.
Despite the Christmassy implications of the name, runners were even treated to a spot of July sunshine.
The men’s team consisting of Sam Farmer, Neil Hayhurst, Oliver Brunnock, Daniel Costello, Peter Barnes, Liam O’Neill came in third place.A club spokesperson said: “The men finishing third was a brilliant effort in a fast field and hot and humid conditions.”
Several runners won their respective age categories, which were as follows: Emma Paull (Women 35-39) – first; Julie Towers (Women 60-64) – first; Diane Warren (Women 65-69) – first; Andrea Simmons (Women 70-74) – first; Neil Hayhurst (Men 40-44) – first; Chunky Penhaul (Men 75-79) – first.
There were also three men that came second and were as follows: Peter Barnes (Men 40-44) – second; Scott Abraham (Men 50-54) – second; Stewart Townend (M80+) – second. Club chairman, Richard Collett said: “The Turkey Trot is always a fantastically well-organised race with a great post-race atmosphere at Trickys.
“A reasonably quick four miles around the block sees our runners generally running a bit quicker than their usual 10k+ paces and everyone finishes with a smile on their face.
“In a very competitive race we were pleased the men's team managed to bring home third place, while the nine age category prizes were all golds and silvers.”
The next race in the Cornish Grand Prix Race Series is the Indian Queens Half Marathon on Sunday, August 4, while the 10th is just six days later – the Sticker 5 – on Saturday, August 10.
