Hampshire responded with a single shot on the sixth end to re-establish a three-shot lead.
But two consecutive scores of two on the seventh and eighth ends took Cornwall into the lead for the first time in the final and the lead was extended with another score of one to Cornwall on the ninth end to lead 8-6 with and end to play.
Hampshire levelled the score on the final end to force a tie-break where with his last bowl, Nigel trailed the jack into the ditch to secure the title 9-8.
There were plenty of other Cornish bowlers in action at the event.
John Worton (St Newlyn East) and Steve Smith (Holmans) also topped their group and progressed to the knockout stages.
In Group 8 they won 14-9 against Shannon and Terry Mead (Essex) and 9-5 against Paula and Julian Scales (Kent) as well as losing 9-7 to Lawrence and Chantel Ireland (North Yorkshire).

There wasn’t quite the same luck for Kensey Vale’s Paula and Rob D’Agostino and Duloe’s Martin Boraston and Jon Read (Duloe) as both teams lost all three matches in their respective groups.
The day before saw Cornwall represented by two teams in the National Mixed Fours at the same venue.
The Camelford quartet of Mark Williams, Eileen Williams, Zoe Barnard-Rowland and Lee Rowland qualified from Group Four before losing in the first round of the knockouts, which was the same stage Duloe’s Chris Page, Caroline Trubshaw, Charlotte Rollings and Alan Trubshaw reached after going unbeaten in Group 11.
