WESTERN LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION ROUND-UP – SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 30

BOSS Lee Denton is still waiting for his first point since taking charge of St Blazey following another heavy defeat on their travels, this time 4-0 at Shepton Mallet.

This result followed a 3-0 defeat at Barnstaple a fortnight ago and a 2-1 loss at home to leaders Brixham in Denton’s first match.

It is clearly going to take time to turn around the fortunes of the Green and Blacks, who have now won only one game in 16.

Blazey made a decent start to Saturday’s game but fell behind to a Callum Gould goal midway through the first half and a sucker punch second from Charlie Bateson on the stroke of half-time.

It was 3-0 only six minutes into the second half with Will Banks on target and substitute Ieuan Crowe completed Blazey’s misery seven minutes from time.

Elsewhere in Somerset, St Blazey’s neighbours St Austell were in action, but they also conceded four in a 4-2 defeat at Paulton Rovers.

The Saints had won four of their last five games in the division, but they fell to their first league defeat since September as the hosts won with something to spare.

Skipper Neil Slateford gave the Lillywhites a 14th minute lead and they were the better side for much of the first half, but conceded a 41st minute equaliser from Kye Simpson to go in on level terms at the break.

Then, two goals in five minutes around the hour mark left St Austell chasing the game.

Milo Murgatroyd put Paulton ahead for the first time after 58 minutes and Simpson made it 3-1 in the 63rd minute.

Simpson completed his hat-trick 12 minutes later to increase their lead and substitute Adam Carter’s goal four minutes from time came too late to make a difference.
