SOUTHERN LEAGUE DIVISION ONE SOUTH ROUND-UP – SATURDAY, DECEMBER 14

MOUSEHOLE moved into the play-off places after thrashing Willand Rovers 4-0 at Trungle Parc on Saturday.

The Seagulls were looking to bounce back from their midweek defeat to Westbury United which saw the Wiltshire visitors leave as 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Joe Beardwell (36) and Daniel Restorick (86), and put the Devonians to the sword.

Such was their desire to get three points, they led inside two minutes from defender Ryan Barrett before ace midfielder Tallan Mitchell netted twice (8 and 17) in quick succession.

Recent signing from Falmouth Town, Oscar Massey, added the fourth ten minutes after the break as the majority of the 191-strong crowd went home happy.

Helston Athletic dropped out of the top five despite a 2-2 draw with visiting Thatcham Town at Kellaway Park.

The visitors started the brighter but it was the Blues that went in front on 27 minutes via Will Sullivan after the winger was played in.

Jacob Smith missed when well placed to double the lead before the visitors did likewise three minutes before the break.

But Thatcham went into half-time level when Andrew Matthews thundered home a header.

Helston were on top early in the second half but conceded when Clive Gwavava powered home a rocket shot on 62 minutes.

But Helston are a tough nut to crack and earned a point ten minutes from time when Reece Thomson finished off a cross.

Home defender Callum O’Brien was sent off late on, but they held on.

Falmouth’s tough run of results continued as they were beaten 1-0 at Melksham Town.

A large crowd of 320 was in attendance, including another healthy following from Cornwall, but Jake Andrews’ 55thminute finish was enough for the hosts.
