SWPL PREMIER WEST (SATURDAY)

Callington Town 2 Bude Town 1

BUDE slipped to a disappointing defeat as a clinical Cally side took three points at the Ginsters Marsh.

After a quiet opening, the Seasiders took the lead 12 minutes in.

Full-back Fin Haste smacked the crossbar from 30 yards but the rebound fell to 16-year-old Jake Woodland who made no mistake and found the top corner.

Harry Dymond then shot over when well-placed, before a five-minute spell cost Bude dear.

Callington equalised from the penalty spot on 38 minutes after keeper Ty Rowe gathered a ball into the box and put his arm into the striker’s face and Kieran Ryall found the top corner.

Three minutes later it was 2-1 as a ball in behind saw a cross converted at the far post by Fin Skews.

Bude, tired after their midweek excursions at Penzance, dug in and Maximus Alvarez-Lopera hit an outrageous shot from 30 yards on the half volley which the angle of post and crossbar before falling to sub George Harvey.

He had the goal at his mercy but miraculously the keeper pulled off a fine save.

Bude continued to battle for the equaliser but couldn’t find a way through.

Manager Steve Hackett told the Post: “Big credit to Callington, they are a really decent team – very well-organised, strong and hard to break down. The lads have played a lot of football recently and there were a lot of tired legs out there.

“I’d also like to say a big thank you to Callington who showed enormous generosity by donating £335 to our Gary Clarke fund – we really appreciate the kindness.”
