Southern League Division One South latest round-up

OLIVER Redd grabbed a vital 94th minute equaliser as Helston Athletic earned a priceless point in their battle for survival.

The Blues had lost 3-0 to Didcot Town and then 8-2 to Cinderford Town in midweek, but showed their battling qualities in Hampshire.

Trailing 2-0 to goals from Lewis Ross (28) and Connor Dunesby-Bent (65), recent acquisition Craig Duff-Dick pulled one back on 81 minutes before Redd’s late strike.

With eight games remaining, Matt Cusack’s men remain in the relegation zone but are just two points behind Bideford who are on 38.

Falmouth are only a point ahead of Bideford but have 13 games to pull themselves towards mid-table.

After losing 2-1 at Malvern Town seven days earlier, they were beaten by the same scoreline by promotion-chasing Evesham United at Bickland Park.

Falmouth found themselves 2-0 down midway through the first half thanks to Levi Steele’s double (22 and 25), and despite Rubin Wilson netting for the second straight week, they couldn’t get the all-important leveller in front of a healthy crowd of 342.

Mousehole continue to solidify their play-off spot as Ross Derham’s injury-time strike earned them a point at Didcot Town. The Seagulls headed to Oxfordshire off the back of a 1-0 success over Larkhall Athletic, but found themselves 2-0 down to Daniel Warre’s double (14 and 53).

But Mousehole responded as Morgan Lewis pulled one back on the hour, before Derham’s late intervention.

It means Jake Ash’s side sit third in the table on 63 points from 35 games.

But with four teams – Exmouth Town, Malvern Town, Bishops Cleeve and Bemerton Heath Harlequins – not far behind and with games in-hand, it’s shaping up to be an exciting race to finish in the top five and with it a chance of promotion to Southern League Premier South.
