CALLINGTON Town bounced back from the midweek 6-1 hammering by Liskeard in excellent style on Saturday with an impressive 3-1 victory at Wadebridge Town in SWPL Premier West.
The result means Cally are almost certain of a top-six finish, having opened up an eight-point gap from the Bridgers in seventh.
There was little to choose between the sides in a scrappy first half made difficult by a blustery wind but the visitors broke the deadlock in first half injury time through Will Elliott.
Jim McNary got Wadebridge back into the game with a 55th minute equaliser but two goals in seven minutes secured the points for Cally.
Adam Patterson restored their lead in the 65th minute and Fin Skews completed the scoring.
Dobwalls edged a point closer to securing a third-place finish after a hard-fought match in difficult conditions at Lantoom Park saw them draw 0-0 with Bude Town.
Joint first team manager Brad Gargett said: “Both teams tried but dry pitches and wind is making it really difficult to play.
“Both teams showed plenty of effort and endeavour but the conditions made it a game where chances were difficult to come from.
“We had the best chance of the game but volleyed over from eight yards. It was our third clean sheet in a row, which is a positive.”
Sam Cox’s wind-assisted free kick after nine minutes was enough to earn Bodmin a precious three points at Truro City Reserves.
The result eased any relegation fears Simon Minnett’s might have had after a long and arduous campaign at Priory Park.
Truro enjoyed long spells of pressure but were unable to turn their dominance into goals. This was their third successive 1-0 home defeat.
Elsewhere in the division, Holsworthy saw off top-four hopefuls Wendron United 1-0 thanks to Aidan Slade’s early goal in Devon.
