GRAMPOUND Bowling Club hosted their annual Finals Day on Sunday, September 1.
One final was played prior to the day, which was the Ladies’ Stewart Cup - it was won by Joyce Barrett after beating Emma Wells in a very close final, 14-13.
The morning games saw Roger Biddick beating Malcolm McCarthy 14-7 to win the Men’s Tippett Shield, Joyce Barrett defeat Emma Wells 19-6 to win the Ladies’ Tippett Shield and Elliott Wells and Dave Juleff get the better of Francis Browne and Nigel Harris 18-17 to win the Men’s Rhoades Pairs in what was a very close final. Members and spectators enjoyed the pasties for lunch.
The afternoon games were two of the club’s main finals, Dave Juleff beat Malcolm McCarthy 21-8 to win the Men’s Stewart Cup and after another close final, Emma Wells beat Pat McCarthy 21-18 to lift the Ladies’ Langsford Rose Bowl. Everyone then gathered back at the clubhouse to enjoy afternoon cream teas when thanks were given to the Ladies who prepared the food and to the spectators who came and supported the players.
There are another two finals which are now scheduled for another date, the Ladies’ Thomas Pairs: Emma Wells and Evelyn Busby vs Lisa Stubbs and Joyce Barrett and the David Andrews Open Pairs: Francis Browne and Simon Wells vs Norman Way and David Honey.
The day before, Grampound played local rivals Probus in a friendly and it was a win for Grampound gaining 55 shots to Probus’ 39.
The rinks scores were: Evelyn Busby and David Juleff's rink won 22-9, Donald Ford's rink lost 18-16 and Simon Wells' rink won 17-12.
