CAMBORNE will take on Penzance in the Vinter Cup final later this month after both sides eased to last four victories.
Camborne took on ECB Cornwall Premier League rivals Helston at Redruth on Wednesday in a contest many expected to be very close.
But it was Jamie Goldsworthy’s side that eased to a nine-wicket success, knocking off their target of 118 in just 13.2 overs.
Like they did against Truro in the quarter-final, Helston chose to bat upon winning the toss, but soon lost South African Lance Alberts for just three as he toed a catch to Will Eva at mid-on off Josh Fontana.
Cornwall duo Billy Taylor (17 off 17) and Karl Leathley (33 off 25) added 18 before the former pulled a catch to Jordan Gatley at mid-wicket off Goldsworthy’s (2-22 off 4) off-spin (35-2).
While Leathley kept the scoreboard ticking, Steve Jenkin struggled, making just 12 off 23 before Leathley was lbw to spinner Jacob MacDonald (63-3).
Jenkin eventually holed out to long-on before skipper Mark Jenkin was bowled first ball by Jacob MacDonald (2-16 off 4) at 76-5.
Justin Stephens (20 off 25) and Ryan Tonkin (19no off 15) made sure they got up towards 120, but a score of 117-8 was below par.
That was shown by Camborne as they raced to 53-1 inside the six-over powerplay, and then 88-1 after 10.
Jordan Harvey was stumped third ball for four by Taylor off Alberts’ (1-15 off 2) off-spin, but Aussie Josh Fontana and the impressive youngster Alfie MacDonald batted positively and just kept going.
Both men were strong down the ground with Fontana playing the anchor role for his 43 not out off 37 deliveries, while MacDonald’s unbeaten 71 came off just 40 balls with five fours and four sixes.
Twenty-four hours earlier at Helston, it was Penzance that cruised into the final as they beat County Division One outfit Mullion by 95 runs.
The Seagulls had shocked St Just in the last eight and they got off to a decent start as the experienced Mike Cockings first had the ever-dangerous Christian Purchase caught by Mathew Davies for nine, before he bowled German international Dylan Blignaut for the same score (36-2).
But skipper Ben Seabrook continued his superb form with 60, as he and Dan Lello set the platform before Seabrook went with the score at 97 in the 14th over.
At this stage the Seagulls were right in the game, but the introduction of Grant Stone changed the game.
The former Newquay man struck his third ball for six off Joss Hearn and never looked back.
Lello (34 off 36), who had struggled initially, hit Mathew Davies for back-to-back sixes before edging behind to Max Roberts in the 18th over.
But the momentum continued as Jack Paull’s six balls saw him make an unbeaten 16 which included three fours, while Stone ended 43 not out from just 19 deliveries with three fours and as many sixes as they closed on 178-4.
Mullion needed overseas Michael Blanks to have a night out to have much chance against a superb attack, but he was ran out off the first ball by Seabrook.
Jonty Wheatley was also out first ball in the next over off Giles Lawrence, who soon had Hearn stumped for seven (10-3).
Daniel Tripconey managed 11, but when the Seagulls slipped to 49-7 it was game over.
James Dark ensured a sense of respectability by adding an unbeaten 45 as he and Max Roberts (15no) batted out the overs for a total of 83-7.
Croom (2-3 off 2), Giles Lawrence (2-13 off 4) and Andrew Libby (2-20) each took a brace.
