ECB CORNWALL PREMIER LEAGUE (SATURDAY)

Camborne v Penzance

PENZANCE’S lead at the top of the ECB Cornwall Premier League table is now 14 points following a remarkable collapse at bottom side Camborne who earned themselves a tie.

With the visitors 171-4 with 32 balls to go it appeared they were on course for victory, but six wickets fell including a run out off the last ball to give Camborne 15 points and the visitors 14.

The home side’s total of 185-8 was built around a 104-run stand between opener Alfie MacDonald (45) and Aussie Josh Fontana (47).

And although they were steady, any momentum built up from their second wicket partnership was slowed as three wickets for two runs, including both set batsmen (116-4).

A 51-run stand between Jamie Goldsworthy (24) and Stephen Richards (22) turned proceedings before some late wickets fell to German international Dylan Blignaut (4-39).

Penzance advanced to 57-0 in reply before Jacob MacDonald struck twice in three balls.

And although the dangerous Christian Purchase went for 39 at 75-3, two 48-run stands involving skipper Ben Seabrook looked to have guided the visitors home.

But the departure of Dan Lello for 21 to Stephen Richards (3-11) in the 45th over proved decisive.

In a remarkable finish, just seven were required off the final three overs with four wickets in-hand.

The 48th, bowled by Dan Hocking (2-36), saw the paceman dismiss Jonny Ludlam with three coming off it.

Richards’ 49th was incredibly a wicket maiden which saw the back of Seabrook for 58, but even then the visitors were slight favourites.

Two singles came off the first four before the penultimate delivery saw Tom Dinnis caught by Alfie MacDonald.

That meant Andrew Libby was on strike, but he was run out coming back for a second to ensure Camborne remain within ten points of second bottom Helston.
