Callington Town have announced that Dean Southcott will be manager of their South West Peninsula League team next season.

Southcott, who joins from St Piran League East club Gunnislake, replaces Kevin Kendall, who stood in midway through the season to guide the club through to the end of the season.

Callington chairman Steve Blatchford said: “I would like to put on record my thanks to Kevin for all his hard work and enthusiasm having taken control at an incredibly difficult time for the club.

“His efforts helped secure a good finish with some notable results. We wish Kevin all the best in his future endeavours.

“I am also incredibly excited to be working with Dean moving forward and look forward to the new season.”

The Southcotts have strong links with Callington, Dean’s father Ian, the former Liskeard Athletic striker,  having managed the club previously before he moved to Gunnislake.

In a statement issued at the weekend, Gunnislake said: “Dean’s hard work behind the scenes will be missed. Along with his work ethic in getting the best local players to the club.

“He helped the club gain two promotions in three years along with his dad Ian.

“Assistant coach Liam Bryant will also be stepping away for a very different reason, due to family commitments.

“Although it’s very sad that we lose someone, we will be in talks next week with one or two to see if they want to fill these big boots.

“Thanks for your hard work Dean and we wish you luck with your new adventure.”
