ST Columb Boxing Club duo Seth Jewell and Josh Rounding both competed in the Blue Flames show in Taunton on Saturday, January 25.

First up was Seth, known as ‘The Diamond’, as he made his debut in a skills bout against Torbay ABC’s Mason Bond.

Seth put on an impressive performance, controlling the contest with his sharp jab and excellent movement. He skilfully manoeuvred in and out of range, delivering well-timed combinations and applying pressure by backing his opponent onto the ropes.

A club spokesperson said: “A superb effort from Seth as he did himself and the club proud!”

Next up was Josh ‘Right Hand’ Rounding, facing off against Evan Loasby, also from Torbay ABC.

Josh had a cautious start in the opening round, moving well but struggling to find his rhythm. However, after some strong words from his corner, he came out in the second round with renewed determination.

Josh took control, keeping his opponent on the back foot and landing clean right hands.

With the contest evenly poised at one round apiece going into the third, Josh showed his superior fitness and relentless drive.

A series of powerful straight shots forced his opponent to take a standing count. Not letting up, Josh continued his relentless assault, resulting in another standing count before Loasby’s corner threw in the towel.

A club spokesperson said: “A fantastic first win for Josh, demonstrating great resilience and skill. Congratulations to both men for their outstanding performances and for representing the club with distinction!”

The club also made the short trip up the A30 the next day to take part in a sparring session organised by Bodmin Amateur Boxing Club.

A number of local clubs were involved as they aim to bring through the next generation.
