BOSCASTLE and Crackington Gig Club sent nine crews out to the Scillies to take part in the 33rd World Gig Rowing Championships over the May Bank Holiday weekend.
After months of training, both on and off the water, excitement levels were high.
Racing began on Friday morning with Ladies and Mens Vets and Supervets long race from St Agnes back to St Mary's.
Later in the day, the heats were held and the Ladies Supervets A crew finished in an amazing 13th place overall, just missing out on a place in the finals the next day.
The Ladies Supervets B crew, who raced in a borrowed boat, finished in a very credible 37th place.
The Lady Vets crew made it through to the finals the next day, and finished in an incredible ninth place overall, this was the highest position any crew from BCGC had ever achieved.
The Mens Supervets and Vets also achieved amazing results coming 23rd and 19th respectively.
On Saturday afternoon it was the turn of the younger rowers in the Open races, which sorted the fields of 130-plus crews, into groups of 12, for the heats.
The Ladies A crew finished 60th in Group E
The Ladies B crew finished 113th in Group J
The Men's A crew finished in 24th in Group B after climbing up from Group C in the heats.
It has been a challenging winter for training and the club have been very fortunate to have Roadford Lake as their winter rowing venue.
After the excitement of the World Championships, the club is looking forward to a great summer of rowing out of Boscastle and attending regattas.
BCGC are holding their own regatta on Saturday, June 1 at Boscastle Harbour, and hope people will come along for an afternoon of spectacular racing.
